First two chapters of Lowborn

The first chapter of Lowborn is back from editing, and finalized — ready to post.  Chapter two is in Roust’s hands, and will probably be ready sometime tomorrow.  That puts me on schedule to put the first one in the queue on Saturday or Sunday for an expected release on the 30th or 31st, with the second put in the queue about three days later.

Submission dates subject to change, depending upon the queue at Lit.  I have a story as RR moving through right now, so that will give me a better idea of how long the posting delay is.  No matter what, those are the dates I’m aiming for.

Roust turns stories around pretty quickly, and these chapters are short anyway, so I don’t anticipate any issues with the twice-a-week posting from an editing standpoint.

I have another RR story done, and I’ll sneak that into the editing queue after this second chapter, but I doubt that will muddy the waters either.  It’s rare when Roust doesn’t get something back to me in 24 hours.  Plenty of time to have everything finished, quite possibly before Ch. 03 posts.

With that second RR story done, I’m about to delve into SOTM.  Just didn’t have the right frame of mind for such a vivid scene yesterday, and I think I have it today.  The young one is much quieter, and not in the mood to spend any time with me, preferring to hang out by himself ( he does that sometimes )

So, I may be able to give you some wordcount progress a little later this evening.

Or rather, probably in the wee hours of the morning *laugh*

First read done.

Just finished the first read of Lowborn, and I don’t think I’m going to do a second, despite that being the original plan.  After only a few tweaks on the first read, I’m happy with it.

So, after I’ve relaxed for a bit, I’m going to begin the final nuts and bolts editing of the first chapter, and get it off to my editor.

My best guess at this point is that it will begin posting on the 30th or 31st.  Keep up here, on Facebook, or Twitter.  Major points will go on the latter two, while I’ll ramble on in more detail here.

Most likely write some more on SOTM today as well.  I’ve had a big scene at a roiling boil in my head for the last couple of days that’s pretty desperate to get out *laugh*

Initial stage done

Finished the initial stage of editing Lowborn a few minutes ago, which involved going back through a few chapters and adding some spice to the descriptions of the setting.  It actually wasn’t as sparse as I thought it was.

Now, I’m going to do the first full read from beginning to end, to check the pacing.  Odds are that I’ll do more tweaking along the way.  After that, I’ll let it sit for a couple of days.

And updating

To put it mildly, my day at work yesterday sucked donkey balls.  Today was a little better, but I’m still worn out.

Fortunately, amidst the living hell, my muse is still in full swing, writing scenes in my head between moments of unbelievable frustration.

So, nothing went on paper yesterday, but things are still moving on SOTM 19.

Now that I’ve been home and relaxed for a bit, I’m going to dig in to the first stage of editing Lowborn.  Starting about chapter five, I feel as if I lost some of the atmosphere of the world for a bit.  I’m going to go back through and punch that up.  I’ve got  a bad habit of concentrating so much on my characters that I forget they have to have somewhere to play :p

Once I’ve tweaked the chapters that are weak on atmosphere, I’ll begin the first read-through.  That’s checking continuity, pacing, etc.

The second read-through ( probably a couple of days later ) will be a deeper read, looking for obvious mistakes.

After that ( again, I’ll probably leave at least a day of lag between.  Doing other things to get the story out of my head to at least some extent makes errors that I might otherwise read past stand out ) I’ll begin the first-pass edit on the chapters one by one.  As each is finished, I’ll send it out to Roust for a second set of eyes.  Once I’ve went through his suggested changes, the chapter will go gold.

I’m going to get at least three chapters ready to roll before I start posting.  That should allow enough space for any issues that might come up on my end or Roust’s, in order to assure that I can have two chapters per week prepared to post.

Then it’s a matter of whether Lit’s queue will cooperate with that *laugh*

I’ll keep you up to date on the editing process, as well as progress on SOTM.

Merchant Princess in downloads

Finally got Merchant Princess converted over to Kindle and RTF format, and uploaded to the downloads section.

Both options contain all six chapters in a single download.

The longer multi-chapter stories require a lot more work to convert, because they’re all saved as individual chapter documents, and I have to go back through combining them before converting.  That’s why so many 1-shot stories have been converted to start out with.

The current upload reflects a few minor edits ( I still had a problem with sheath vs. sheathe at the time ) but otherwise is exactly the same as the versions on Literotica and Storiesonline.

( The version on Stories Space, as mentioned earlier, has some minor word-choice editing and an oral scene removed )

Still making my way through the final scene of Lowborn.  I expect that barring unusual circumstances, I’ll be able to announce that the first draft is complete this weekend.  It’s far easier to find ( reasonably ) quiet time when I’m awake enough to visualize and write on the weekend.

I’ll probably do a little work on the “My Worlds” section this weekend as well.  Finishing the Miscellaneous page won’t take but a few minutes, so that will probably get done.  I’ll likely do a couple of behind the scenes tweaks to My Characters, finalizing the database structure and display.  At that point, it’s a matter of adding a dozen or so more characters to start with.

Probably convert a few more stories over for download as well.  I may go with RR or Les stories, just to add some variety.  That and I’m running out of easy to convert Dark stories *laugh*

As I said before, feel free to suggest other ebook formats.  If it’s possible, I’ll add them.  Likewise, if there’s enough call for no-cover/censored cover Kindle versions, I’ll do that as well.
