SOTM 14 Live!

Sisters of the Mists Ch. 14 is live at Lit. Go read, vote, and comment!

I’m about to start Heart of the Wood from the beginning again. My female protagonist was working out fine, but I was having a hell of a time writing Glen, the member of the family who stars in this one. I finally decided that part of his character, as I was writing him, was simply unappealing to me.

It was a good idea, providing ample opportunity for his character to grow, change, and become someone better during the story, but I just found the negative qualities too hard for me to wrap my imagination around. He was just too cocky and “god’s gift to women” for me to stomach *laugh*

The new version is going to severely tone this down, and I hope that will let me proceed. He’s still going to be experienced — very experienced — but the way he got to that point has changed completely.

We’ll see how it goes tomorrow when I try to knuckle down and really get this story rolling. I’ll actually probably see when I start musing it as I’m drifting off to sleep tonight and tomorrow at work.

Wish me luck! I need it all the time when I’m trying to write nowadays. Concentrating and getting in the mood to write is a major struggle.

Midnight Release Confirmed

Lit sometimes pre-approves stories, and the new chapter of SOTM got one, so it absolutely will be going up at midnight.

Due to the way the readership numbers have been working at SOL, I’m going to wait until after the evening approvals are complete to submit it there, slating it for a Friday morning release. The way the downloads seem to do, I doubt that many SOL readers will notice the delay, as the total downloads drop dramatically when releasing in the late approvals as opposed to morning.

Everybody should be able to read the new chapter on Friday.

SOTM Ch. 14 in the queue

I put ch. 14 in the queue at Lit a minute ago. If the turnaround time for submissions is as I expect, it should come out at the midnight transition between Thursday and Friday.

As soon as it posts at Lit, I’ll put it in the queue at SOL.

Edit complete

The edit of SOTM 14 is complete, and I’ll be putting it in the queue at Lit on Tuesday, aiming for a Friday release ( unless I get conflicting information about the turnaround time for new submissions at Lit, in which case I’ll adjust to still aim for Friday )

Keep in mind that I’m going to hold off for a little while before putting out 15. I’m only a couple of chapters ahead and writing slow as hell, so I’m going to give myself some time in hopes that releasing chapters will spur me to write faster on upcoming ones.

Now, back to Heart of the Wood. First time in days that I’ve had a bit of writing spark, and I want to get this one going. I have tomorrow off, so if I can get some momentum going today, I might just get this one into a position where I’m reasonably confident that I’ll finish it on time.

Ready for editing

Finished the final read of SOTM 14. I’m going to send it off to my editor in a few minutes. He usually finishes up an edit in a day, so that’s within my timeframe for putting it in the queue this week.

If all works out as planned, the chapter should come out on Lit on Friday night, though it could be Thursday or Saturday. As soon as I see it go live, I’ll put it in the queue at SOL.

As soon as I get the email off, it’s back to Heart of the Wood. I’m struggling with motivation, but picking up a little steam. Hoping the young one cooperates by going to bed at a decent hour and not acting like a demon =P
