A little research

I paused on Queen tonight to do a little research.  It’s only the tiniest bit of a scene, but its important to getting Thakkor and Alicia where they’re going.  I need to do a little research ( and probably talk to some people with experience ) about sailing in order to make sure that the scene I just finished is accurate enough to fly.

In the mean time, I had a flash of inspiration and I’m working on a story in my third pen name too.  Once I start one of those, they typically fly by.  They rarely exceed two Lit pages, and don’t have much in the way of plot, so they’re not such brain-wrackers as what I normally write *laugh*

I’ll probably head back to Queen in the morning while I wait for the feelers on sailing to play out.  I don’t need to research the scene that follows, after all.

A little closer

Up to 2500 words on Queen, and after the scene break I just typed, I’ll be in my primary location.  Had a couple of brainstorms at work today that should enhance the story, too 😀

A wee break, and back to the story.  I may not be getting much written each day, but at least I’m getting a little.  I’ve been out of that habit for too long, and this seems to be doing me some good.

Rolling along

Queen is up to 2200 words, and I’m about to put Thakkor and Alicia into the primary setting of the story.  Once I get them there, the fun and romance begins 🙂

Taking another quick break, and then I’m going to write a bit more on the scene I’m working on for SOTM 17.

Then, I’m going to try to get my problem child in bed a little earlier tonight.  I slept through the alarm for almost an hour this morning.

A little rewrite

I did a little rewrite on Queen of the Isle, more or less to simplify the lead-in of the story a bit.  When I read it again after letting it sit for a while, it felt too busy to me.  I stripped out a walk through a city of Agreseus, putting them directly on the ship instead.  I removed a couple of other relatively unimportant character elements, and I’m now back up to where I originally left off with a far tighter opening to the story.

Taking a few minutes to blow off some steam, and then I’ll decide if I want to pick up there, or pick up where I left off on SOTM 17.  Probably won’t get much done, because my butthead child took a four hour nap this afternoon at daycare that ended at 8:30.  Getting him into bed is going to be a nightmare.  Trying to concentrate and write with a wound-up child awake is hardly optimal conditions.

Anyway, off to goof around and chill out before I get back to the word processor.

Squeezing in a little

I’m alternating between writing a little on SOTM and Queen of the Isle whenever I’m awake enough and have some time.  I wrote a bit on both of them the last couple of days.  I’d really like to finish ( or at least knock out a big chunk of ) this chapter of SOTM before I knuckle down on Queen ( and Whispers of the Wood, if I have time ) but I do want to get into the contest, so it all depends.

May start on the next chapter of Lowborn, too.  There’s even a chance that I might work on Sanctuary of the Wood and finish that, even though I started writing it for the Nude Day contest.

But, Queen and SOTM have the front burners.  Just thought I’d drop a line.  Work is still trying to kill me, but I’m at least getting in a few paragraphs on something a day.  Trying to get into that habit if at all possible.
