6500 on Kindred

Moving along on Kindred of the Wood.  I’m getting to the meat of the story now, bringing my two protagonists together, and getting ready to spring the surprise of a lifetime on them 🙂

Just taking a quick break after finishing a warm-up scene for all that, and then I’m heading back to it.  The young one is still a little slowed down from just getting up, so I’ve got a little more time before he goes wild for the day.

With any luck, I’ll have plenty of reports of forward progress as the weekend goes on.

Queen finalized

The final draft of Queen is finished.  I just need to do the conversion to post it to Lit and add the author’s notes to it.  Converting it for SOL is a one button process, and most of the author’s notes are unnecessary, because there’s no need to mention the contest or post the timeline of the Nobles series there, thanks to the ability to group things as a series in sequence.

Contest starts the 20th, so I should be able to submit it to Lit at any time and have it appear with the first crop of contest stories.

Sent off that third pen name story for editing, too.

Didn’t write much on Kindred today, because I got home late and didn’t have the chance to take a nap before I picked up the young one.  With as little sleep as I get when he’s home, my brain shuts down without those naps.  I did spend most of the day musing the story, though.  I added a lot of notes to the end of the text to make sure I don’t forget any of those little things I dreamed up when I’m awake enough to write again ( hoping tomorrow )

Off to bed.

Queen off for editing

I put the final touches on Queen of the Isle and sent it off for editing tonight.  Knowing Roust, I’ll have the corrected version back sometime tomorrow, and have a final ready by the weekend at the latest.

I did a little writing on Kindred tonight, during brief respites, but the young one is in a mood.  He’s also going through a phase of not wanting to sleep again, which is not making things easy.  The way he manages this is to go hog wild, and it’s difficult to keep my head on straight when he’s like this.

Doubt I’ll get much more done tonight ( currently 5900 words ) because there’s no hope of him winding down before my limit of when I have to go to bed and not be exhausted all day tomorrow.

Figured it out

Puzzled out the order of those scenes while musing today at work.  I came home, edited the end of the last scene I’d written to accomodate things, and then took a nap :p

I’m going to read for a while and wind down, because shortly after figuring that out, my day at work went to hell.  I’m one of those people who can’t stand to see things done with a complete lack of intelligence, and my boss was demonstrating staggering amounts of asshattery today.  For the sake of shaving maybe a half hour off the day ( Gotta cut that overtime! ) we pretty much screwed up every load sent out with stuff out of sequence, ran everyone like dogs during a heat advisory, and just generally produced a completely unacceptable level of quality control by necessity of the ludicrous speed he was attempting to run.

For some reason, he can’t seem to comprehend that light speed, grind to a halt, light speed, grind to a halt has a center point that gets you to the same place without fucking up order quality in the process — despite having been provided with regular examples of exactly that truth.

It’s hard to say whether they hire idiots, or whether the morning ops meetings ( which cannot be interrupted for operational problems — even complete shutdowns ) steadily suck their brains out of their asses, but something is obviously going on.

[/rant]

Anyhow, I’m going to read for a while, then probably make the final tweaks on Queen, get it off for editing, and see if the young one is going to either go to sleep or at least chill enough ( if he remains uninterested in my company :p ) to let me get to work on those freshly aligned scenes of Kindred.

Which way to go…

I’ve got two(three?) scenes that I know are a part of the build-up in Kindred, but I’m having difficulty deciding which one best leads into the other.  I’ve been musing it all day at work, and the scenes are really well fleshed out, save for the lead-in and lead-out that determines order.

It’s up to 5600 words, BTW.

Feeling a little run down from it tonight, so I’m probably going to let it simmer for another day and hope for that flash of inspiration.

I might make the final adjustments to Queen and get it off for editing, but I’m really pretty blah tonight.  I did go back and do some more tweaking to Kindred that help tie the overal theme of the story and Mara’s motivations into the scenes more designed to establish Wade/relationships between the characters, though.

So, it’s not as if I haven’t written anything *laugh*

If the young one happens to drop off in the next half hour or so, I might pick up something and try to make some forward progress.  I had a flash of inspiration on a story ( well, a title that struck me and made me smile that’s been waiting for a story ) for my third pen name, so that might get a beginning written to help jumpstart me when I feel like diving into it.

Still have SOTM and Lowborn there waiting for me to feel those flowing again.
