Have the reorganization and transitions complete in Barren Harvest. Just a matter of moving forward from where I left off now.
There will probably be a new preview page up soon, and I’m going to create a preview selection page to link from the main page, in order to keep all the previews organized.
The new page that will be going up will be the one that displays the cover images for my stories. It’s going to be dynamic, with one page handling displaying all the covers whether they’re pop-up links from my story listings or viewing via the new cover browser.
There will be a link to the cover browser somewhere when I finish deciding the navigation of the site. You’ll also be able to get to it from any cover image that you click to view. I’m probably going to have a slideshow option for this as well.
The main reason I’m working on this is that it’s getting me back into dynamic coding. Most of what I’ve done so far has been primarily static with a little php tossed in. This page will be entirely generated by php depending upon the information passed to it from the last click.
The preview is going to use hard-coded data, but the final will actually read from the database to get the data for each cover image.
Just the next step into making the whole website more dynamic. I’m taking it one step at a time, because it’s been forever and a day since I wrote any code.
Back to writing on Barren Harest.
Hello, I just finished reading Danica and launched into reading Sisters of the Mists over the weekend, and found the story world very interesting as it lured my into its ‘magic circle’. Upon reaching the end of chapter 13 of SOTM though, I was thrust back out of that world and depressed to learn that it had been a year since there were any new chapters released… Wondering about that, I eventually ventured over to this blogroll which drew my interest when it mentioned PHP. I happen to have a fair deal of experience in PHP, and on the off chance that it might reduce the time you spend with PHP, rather than writing, so that maybe someday Sisters of the Mists 14 will become a reality, I’d like to volunteer any PHP-Related help I can provide.
I had a major tragedy in my life, and that’s the primary thing that brought me to a halt on SOTM. I’m slowly plugging away on it as well. There are actually 2 more chapters complete on my HD, but they’re in need of serious work. I wasn’t in the best state when I wrote them, and they need a lot of cleaning up before I can release them.
I’m also trying to get back to where I can write the story without long pauses, and build up a few chapters before I start posting them again. I don’t want to get back to months between chapters, the way it had started going.
I’m actually writing another story starring Danica right now ( Barren Harvest ) and it’s flowing well. That’s a good sign, because I’m able to bring her to life in my head. That’s one of the big problems I was having. Having her walk through my head was just too painful for a long time there, and it’s not quite so bad now.
As to the PHP, I might take you up on that for some snippets some time. I’ve done quite a bit of coding myself, but it’s been years. ( Battle Mod for Invision Power Boards, and a tiny bit of consulting/snippets on the Arcade ) I need to dig that folder up off the old computer so I can refresh my memory about all that I’ve forgotten from my own code *laugh*
I’m still writing, and once I clear my plate of Barren Harvest, I’m going to hit that clean-up work on 14 and 15 of SOTM. I’ll never be as prolific as I used to be, because the depression gets me quite often, but I’ll never stop writing completely.
OMG! A Preview! Woot! I’m sorry to hear about your loss, I got the impression from some of the earlier entries that it was something along those lines. As for the PHP stuff, I’d be happy to look at any snippets that you want to throw my way.
