Power went out on me while I was writing on Heart… Grrr… Fortunately, I only lost a paragraph or two from my previous save, so I didn’t lose much.
It was enough to finally push a building paranoia of mine over the edge, though. I just signed up for online backup. No more worrying about my WIP stories, irreplacable pics, music, or anything else vanishing forever. Despite having several layers of physical backup for a lot of this stuff, there’s always the chance all of that could fail on me.
I’m officially protected, and going back to restore those lost couple of paragraphs.
Edit: 9 PM – And, Heart is done!
Time to let it simmer and work on something else to clear it out of my head. Talk about a relief 🙂
Well my Uncle lives in Australia and power is notoriously fickle there. He adapted by buying several batteries (large ones, almost as big as a desktop pc) hooked to the computers, so that he wouldn’t loose anything in a power shortage. Maybe you should consider the same idea?
I might grab an emergency power system at some point. Have some bills to pay off an a beater of a car to replace first *laugh*
Until then, I’ll just have to settle for redundant backup and excessive save-file clicks.
