I’m sort of alternating between a story in my third name, Heart of the Wood, Lowborn, and SOTM. Nothing is moving very fast, but at least I’m going somewhere.
I was at another one of those transition spots where I needed to move something along in Heart, and I think I’ve figured that out. Unfortunately, there are going to be a lot of those in this story. I have to build a relationship, but I have to do it without the story being six Lit pages long. They’re often tricky, and my natural tendency is to let the characters run, which usually results in a lot of interesting dialogue/development, but which slows the story down.
It’s much the same in SOTM and Lowborn. I’m trying to get past a little sticking point, and can’t quite find the right transition. Lowborn is a near complete rewrite of a chapter I’d already finished, so at least I know where it’s going. SOTM is at the dead end of a chapter. If I can just get this transition to work right, I can get this on in the can.
The story in my third name was only a problem because of the form I write in under that name. If I was writing this story as Les, it would have already been done. The original idea I had in my head was a bit more complicated, and that flowed pretty easily. Unfortunately, it was a Les length/plotted story with the word choice and flow of my third pen name. The characters and basic premise are better suited to the portfolio of my third name, so I pared down and condensed.
Which of course leaves me at a transition, just like everything else I’m working on *laugh* I have to try to get some sort of believable segue between the set-up and the sex now. I think I’m almost there, after writing and deleting probably 3-4k words from the Les-long drafts.
Think I’m going to try to get in bed and see if I can’t have at least one productive day of writing tomorrow. It’s really the last day of my vacation ( I normally have weekends off anyway ) so I hope I can make something out of it.
