More on shorts

Still beat down from long hours at work.  The young one still making things difficult as well.  So, haven’t managed any real progress, though I have written a paragraph or two here and there when there was a quiet moment.

I did manage to complete the full layout for the main “Shorts” page.  Also created the layout ( sans comment section ) for the individual short stories.

There are still a few things to add to the layouts, such as the aforementioned comments section for each story, and a “latest” section at the top of the main shorts page that will point out the last three stories added.  Those are minor things, though.

The next step is to write the code to actually pull them from the database, and for that, I really need to finish at least one more of the new Devan stories.  It’s always easier to test with multiple items.

Once that’s working, it’s on to tweaking the pages and coding the comment section, which I’m still mulling around the best way to do.  The Shorts page will most likely debut with the three Devan stories.  I have ideas for other shorts to add after that.

As usual, I’ll be looking for quiet moments to try to get some writing done.  If nothing else, the weekend usually provides at least some opportunity, and I’ll have caught up on a little sleep by the time I wake up Saturday.

Think it may be time to schedule a day off from work… Ugh…

Closer to the shorts

Finished the main image for the “Shorts” page tonight.  Now, I just have to build the page around the darn thing ( and set up the conditionals that filter images )

Once I have the layout the way I want it, I’ll add the as yet unedited first of the early Devan trilogy to the database for testing purposes.  I need to go through and modify my backend utilities, “Latest Updates” and the “My Work” page to deal with the new shorts database for easy management.

Once it will populate the menu on the shorts page and display the actual story, I’ll test to make sure it also displays on the “My Work” page.  If you happen to be around while that’s happening, the new Devan story may appear briefly before I turn the public bit back off.

Unfortunately, I’ll have to wing it for the “My Updates” page.  Other than cloning it, there’s no real easy way to test that except going live *laugh*

The environment around here just wasn’t conductive to writing tonight.  It’s like that sometimes.  It depends upon the young one’s mood.  I’m not in a naughty part of SOTM or Lowborn, so that’s not an issue.  It’s just loud and distracting tonight.  Couldn’t visualize, and I’m too tired to do it now that he’s winding down.

Damn near forgot to post Second Chance at SOL :p  Realized it when I was checking the updates page, figuring out how I was going to display the “shorts” link.  I think I’ll probably wait to post it for Friday at this point.

We’ll see if the young one will continue to cooperate and if I can close my eyes to visualize without nodding off later.

Couple of things

First, thanks to everyone who read, voted, commented, favorited, and emailed on Second Chance.  It’s going to come close to 1500 votes, and most likely will pass 100k views.

Now, I know I said that the ending of Lowborn was already written, but it turns out I was wrong *laugh*  Once I actually started putting it on paper, something didn’t feel quite right.  I went back and read through the whole story again, and there was something off.

So, I’m doing a little musing to try to fix a point or two, either by switching up the initiation of the ending, or by tweaking a couple of things in earlier chapters.

Meanwhile, I’ve actually put down the first little bit of SOTM 19 on paper, where it’s all been in museland previously.  What’s been holding me back on that one for the most part is deciding what should be the opening scene, and I believe I have it.

Not much wordage yet, but it’s a concrete step toward getting it out.

I’m also working on that multi-part story as Les.  I’m guessing it will be five chapters, and I’m over the halfway mark on chapter 3.

Musing the second of that website-only Devan trilogy as well.  Likewise, I’m doing some of the basic framework for the “Shorts” page that will house them.

Been doing a lot of beta reading lately, and that’s what’s kept me away from my own pen as much as anything.  As I’ve said before, it’s important to me to do that when another author asks, because it develops a pool of people I can ask to do the same for me.  It’s proved a very valuable resource in the past.

Just what’s in my head at the moment.  Hope to be able to come back with wordage updates on Lowborn, SOTM, or Jackin’ Jill ( that new Les story ) soon.

Has to be said *laugh*

Just got this in email feedback:

learn the terms

Comments:

Your story to a point was doing and progressing fine, then it abruptly fell apart. What caused the change, your use of the wrong spelling form of a word for the situation being discribed. Its the use of “come” when properly is should have been “cum” when referring to semen or an orgasm; minor true but has great impact on quality of a story.

Uhm… No.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/come?s=t

 slang to have an orgasm

“Come” is the word that was in use long before me.  In fact, the same definition will point out that semen also shares this word, though I prefer “cum” for the noun.

The modern version of “cum” is just too problematic with respect to climax.  Sorry, but “cummed” is just too 13-year-old text messaging for my taste, and “cumming” isn’t much better.

I get this message every so often, and it always makes me roll my eyes.  If it was a suggestion of a preferred spelling in the commentator’s opinion, I wouldn’t have a problem.  I can certainly respect that and see where they’re coming from.

( Pardon the pun *laugh* )

There’s something to be said for a different spelling that singles out the orgasmic version of come from its vanilla cousin.

However, it’s always someone trying to tell me that I’m wrong, when all it takes is a look at a dictionary — any dictionary — to see otherwise.

My preferred version of the word is every bit as legitimate — if not more so — and has a far longer history than yours, so there! *laugh*
