Sidebar menu

Just added the new sidebar menu to all of the inside pages.  Let me know if you have any problems with it.  If it’s displaying in the middle of the page for you, or anything of that nature, please use the bug report page, as that provides some information automatically, and you can provide a lot more that will help if you choose.

The default version scrolls with the page.  If you’d like an advanced version, login to the forum and check your profile settings.  Find the section for “floating menu” and select “on”.  The menu will then stay exactly where it is when you scroll, allowing you to use it without scrolling back up the page to the top.

The reason I’m adding this is that it will be an absolute necessity for reasonable navigation on the “My Worlds” page.  There are too many subsections to put links in the body of the page without it being a cluttered mess.

What that means is that I’m gearing up to add more content to the site again.  All my software is updated, and I’ve fixed the bugs that were floating around for a while.  That puts me in a position to move forward.  What section I’ll start on, I don’t know.

First things first, though.  I’m going to add the sectional links to the sidebar menu on the existing pages.  That’s pages such as “My Work Extras” where there are a few options of what you can view on that page.  When I’m done, there will be links in the sidebar for “Cover Browser”, “Read Reviews”, and “Story Codes” so you don’t have to use the in-body links.  If you have the floating menu turned on, those sidebar links will be even more convenient.

As to my writing, I finished a scene in SOTM last night, and once the house quiets down a little, I’m going to move on to the next.  I know it’s frustrating to wait so long for new chapters, but I promise you that I’m doing the best I can.  My muse just isn’t what it used to be.

EDIT ( a little later ):  I caught another bug in the Web Updates widget and fixed it.  In the process of doing that, I caught a bug in the admin function that lets me edit those, and fixed it as well.

And, fixed!

Frustrating… the block simply won’t read a WordPress feed at all.  Have to wonder, since Invision is now producing blog software of their own ( for a price ) if they’re purposely making import of WordPress feeds difficult, if not impossible.

Regardless, my feed is now completely fixed, displaying the correct date on the front page as it did before recent software upgrades.

One thing down, a million to go *laugh*

Sonova…

Just noticed that now the blog entries aren’t posting to the first page AT ALL since I updated the blog software *laugh*

I suppose I can hope that when I dig into it tomorrow on my day off that the new location will work properly with my old code, as it did before the most recent update.

Something tells me that’s a faint hope, though.

If I can’t get the new blog feed to read correctly, I’ll just have to bite the bullet and code my own module to grab the feed and display it properly tomorrow.

On a lighter note, I just got a glowing review for Heart of the Wood at SOL.  That alone is enough to keep me posting at SOL for quite some time 😀  The last couple of stories I’ve posted have done much better as well.  If that’s from people reading here getting back to voting and commenting, Thank you!

The review is linked from Heart of the Wood’s entry in “My Work” and there’s a local copy on the “My Work Extras” page ( reached from “My Work” and selecting read reviews from the “Extras” menu )

A bit more

Finally have the next chapter of SOTM moving again.  Just a little more, and I’ll probably post an excerpt on the forum because it will be close to release.

The good news is that shifting a lot of scenes to the next chapter because of the way events in this one turned out gives me a lot to write that’s already ready to roll.  Maybe I can get the following chapter out in a much more reasonable time frame.

Now, to update the blog software and see if it will work without crashing *laugh*

And thanks again

Stocking stuffer and my most recent story in my third name are both doing well at SOL.  Thanks to all the readers over there who took the time — especially those who sent me comments.

I’m working on SOTM in another window.  Keep getting interrupted, but I hope to have enough for a progress report this evening.
