Clearing the plate

Finished my first-pass edit of Queen, and it’s off in the hands of first readers.  I’ve alerted my editor that he has a couple of stories coming his way, as well.

Also finished that third pen name story.  Ditto the first-readers.

Started reworking the beginning of Kindred again.  I just got back from the store, so I’m going to cool down and relax for a few before I dive back into that.

Starting to itch about Lowborn as well.  Only two chapters ( I think ) left there, so it would be nice to get it finished and out there.

Anyway, I’m clearing the plate a little.  Hope to make some serious progress on Kindred this weekend.

Skipping around

Doing a little bit of everything.  I spent most of the day musing Kindred, and I’m going to end up changing that first scene again *laugh*  It just gives away too much of the story the way I have it written.  Likewise, I’m going to introduce a character a little later than I have to provide a bit of tension building.

Probably won’t work on that tonight, though.  I wrote on that story I’ve been fiddling with in my third pen name when I got home.  Still quite a bit of the sex scene left to write there.

Once I’ve wound down a bit, I’ll probably go into the first cold read of Queen.  If the boy happens to go to sleep, I might jump on that rework of Kindred, or get back to that third pen name story.  That’s unlikely, though.

Another slow one

Just not feeling it today.  I did a little tweaking on Kindred, cutting out some dialogue where my characters ran off into things far more interesting to them than a reader, and started working on the transition from the intro to the meat of the story.  Having trouble getting that right, so I decided to give it some muse time.

I wrote a bit on a couple of other things, but nothing of real note.  I’m even less disposed toward editing than writing tonight, so Queen is going to have a bit longer to simmer.

I’m trying to chill out and see if I can get something up a few hundred words, but time’s running out, and the young one is wound up tighter than a drum, which is hard on the nerves.

Better luck tomorrow, I hope.

Rolling on another

Had an epiphany on the way to work this morning, and started on my next summer story when I got home.  My original location has changed from Florida to northern Minnesota ( the Boundary Waters Canoe Area ) both because I could reduce the suspension of reality quotient, and because I’m more familiar with the location.  I’ve scrapped a character, changed the relationship between two others, have a whole new hook from that epiphany, and changed the title.

What was formally going to be Whispers of the Wood is now Kindred of the Wood.  I’m 1200 words in, and rolling along, telling Mara’s tale.  With any luck, I’ll actually get this one finished and polished in time to enter it in the contest.

And Done!

First draft of Queen is done, clocking in at about 9600 words.  I’ll put it aside for a couple of days to simmer, and then come back to it for a cold read.

I’ll be working on something else in the meantime, depending upon what story is calling out to me.  Considering the time, I’d best wind down and get my butt in bed.  I had no idea it was nearly 3 am.  6:30 is going to come awfully early in the morning.
