Merry Christmas!

Just wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas ( or, whatever type of holiday wishes you find appropriate 🙂 )

“Sanctuary of the Wood” is coming along nicely.  I’m hoping I’ll be ready to post a teaser for SOTM 18 by next weekend at the latest.  Working on a few other things as well.  I’m writing daily again, and that will likely continue next week, even though the rumor is that it’s going to be a hell week at work.

As I expected, getting excited over the next Wood story got me moving.  It’s just the way I am.  Sometimes, I need a boost from something else to get my juices flowing so I can work on other stories that may have stalled.  No one thing gets done in a hurry, but at least everything moves.  With my muse being the way it is, I just have to take the inspiration and motivation however I can get it.

Probably do the coding on the new subsections of the sidebar menu at some point today or tomorrow.  That’s the test bed for expanding them for new content sections.  Working on the website when the environment in the house isn’t conductive to writing is another way I keep forward momentum flowing, and there’s usually at least once during the day where that’s the case.

A little progress

The young one was actually in a mood to pay attention to me today, so I spent a lot of the day with him.  It’s a rare thing.  He’s autistic and usually spends most of his time off by himself, not really interested in playing with anyone else.

I got a little more written, but not much.  Hoping next week is slow at work so I’m not knocked out the whole time, and can get some writing done in the mornings/evenings.

Did a little more behind the scenes work on the website, updating some of my administrative utilities to get ready for upcoming stuff.  Everything went off without a hitch, so at least my coding hasn’t gotten rusty since I did any serious work on it.

Ideas flowing, even if the words on paper aren’t.  I think I’m going to change some things in Ch. 07 of Lowborn… Again *laugh*  I was at a bit of a roadblock that wouldn’t let me get to the ending I wanted the way I wanted with what I’d written.  That’s exactly why I changed it last time, but this route only went a little farther than the previous.

The good news is that I won’t be backspacing as much.  There are still a lot of good scenes in there that can stay.  I’ll really only be changing the last scene of the chapter, as opposed to rewriting it compltely.  Then, I should be able to move forward.  I’ve been fiddling with this story forever.  I’d really like to get it out there.  I want to get this one out into the wild before I start on the sequel to Blackhawk Hall.

Sidebar menu

Just added the new sidebar menu to all of the inside pages.  Let me know if you have any problems with it.  If it’s displaying in the middle of the page for you, or anything of that nature, please use the bug report page, as that provides some information automatically, and you can provide a lot more that will help if you choose.

The default version scrolls with the page.  If you’d like an advanced version, login to the forum and check your profile settings.  Find the section for “floating menu” and select “on”.  The menu will then stay exactly where it is when you scroll, allowing you to use it without scrolling back up the page to the top.

The reason I’m adding this is that it will be an absolute necessity for reasonable navigation on the “My Worlds” page.  There are too many subsections to put links in the body of the page without it being a cluttered mess.

What that means is that I’m gearing up to add more content to the site again.  All my software is updated, and I’ve fixed the bugs that were floating around for a while.  That puts me in a position to move forward.  What section I’ll start on, I don’t know.

First things first, though.  I’m going to add the sectional links to the sidebar menu on the existing pages.  That’s pages such as “My Work Extras” where there are a few options of what you can view on that page.  When I’m done, there will be links in the sidebar for “Cover Browser”, “Read Reviews”, and “Story Codes” so you don’t have to use the in-body links.  If you have the floating menu turned on, those sidebar links will be even more convenient.

As to my writing, I finished a scene in SOTM last night, and once the house quiets down a little, I’m going to move on to the next.  I know it’s frustrating to wait so long for new chapters, but I promise you that I’m doing the best I can.  My muse just isn’t what it used to be.

EDIT ( a little later ):  I caught another bug in the Web Updates widget and fixed it.  In the process of doing that, I caught a bug in the admin function that lets me edit those, and fixed it as well.

And, fixed!

Frustrating… the block simply won’t read a WordPress feed at all.  Have to wonder, since Invision is now producing blog software of their own ( for a price ) if they’re purposely making import of WordPress feeds difficult, if not impossible.

Regardless, my feed is now completely fixed, displaying the correct date on the front page as it did before recent software upgrades.

One thing down, a million to go *laugh*

Sonova…

Just noticed that now the blog entries aren’t posting to the first page AT ALL since I updated the blog software *laugh*

I suppose I can hope that when I dig into it tomorrow on my day off that the new location will work properly with my old code, as it did before the most recent update.

Something tells me that’s a faint hope, though.

If I can’t get the new blog feed to read correctly, I’ll just have to bite the bullet and code my own module to grab the feed and display it properly tomorrow.

On a lighter note, I just got a glowing review for Heart of the Wood at SOL.  That alone is enough to keep me posting at SOL for quite some time 😀  The last couple of stories I’ve posted have done much better as well.  If that’s from people reading here getting back to voting and commenting, Thank you!

The review is linked from Heart of the Wood’s entry in “My Work” and there’s a local copy on the “My Work Extras” page ( reached from “My Work” and selecting read reviews from the “Extras” menu )
